I'm a lumberjack and I'm okay...

If you come across any bugs, or have any suggestions (or code!) for improvements, I'd love to hear from you. urlwatch-1.2 This program is intended to be run as a cron(1) job. It checks a stored list of URL's to see if any of them have changed since the last time it was run. If so, an email message is sent to alert you to the change. This was an experiment in using Python's urllib, md5 and smtplib modules. It counts as the most useful program I've ever written! Currently limited in that it requires an SMTP server to connect to in order to send an email, and (worse still!) the server name is hardcoded into the program. A future version will address these problems, but it's still a damn useful bit of code, even if I do say so myself! Download urlwatch-1.2 (3684 bytes) fakepop3-1.0
This is a 'fake' POP3 server which makes it appear to the end user as if they have a single message waiting to be downloaded every time they connect. Supports a subset of the normal POP3 commands, has been tested with Evolution, KMail and several versions of Outlook. Installation instructions are embedded in the comments in the code.
